About
Kavas Cabin Charters
The
Kavas Cabin Charters(actually operated by a Dutch
company but promoted by Kavas), in general, are
an excellent value and you probably won't find anything
that compares in price in Greece, but there are
a few things that you may want to be aware of.
The
cabin charters are operated by a Dutch company and
promoted by Kavas
1.
The cost of the skipper's meals will be shared by
the participants. With 6 people sharing the costs
it will be less expensive, if there are less people
than the cost per person will go up.(A skipper usually
costs 130 euro a day when you charter your own yacht,
so if you have only a couple of people on the yacht,
you virtually have the skipper for the cost his
meals!)
2.
There have been times that the organization of the
start of the charter is been less than stellar.
The yacht may not be ready and you may be asked
to wait until it is prepared or the skipper has
arrived.
3.
The itinerary starting and/or ending points have,
on occasion been changed. In some cases only a day
or two before the charter starts. This has happened
a couple of times so you need to leave you contact
info(phone numbers or e-mail that we can reach you
at)with us so that we can let you know that a change
has been made.(or you need to contact Kavas a day
or two before your charter to confirm that the itinerary
hasn't been changed).
Overall,
the charter is a good value but the exact cost will
depend on the number of passengers.
To
give you an idea of the chances of things going
wrong with a Kavas Cabin Charter, I only receive
one or two complaints about the charter each year(and
one of them this year was because the yacht was
damaged on the charter before the client's so there
was a little bit of a delay and scurrying about
as a replacement boat had to be found.
I
try to compare the Kavas Cabin Charters to a charter
flight, which is usually a good deal and if everything
goes smoothly it will be a great deal. On the other
hand there is a possibility that your flight might
be delayed(and that is usually when you start questioning
whether it was worth the money you saved).
When
deciding to charter the Kavas Cabin Charter you
need to keep the above in mind and weigh the possible
inconvenience vs. the money you save and decide
if it is worth the risk for you. If it is worth
the risk, then go ahead with it.... if it's not
worth the risk then you'll probably want to look
at another cabin charter.(But
keep in mind that going with another charter will
not guarantee that problems may arise- it will just
significantly lower the chances.
